The steady growth of the healthcare industry combined with the resources at local universities and colleges has led to a growing Life Sciences Industry in San Gabriel Valley, including jobs in biomedical research, medical device manufacturing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Additionally, there is job growth in scientific, research and development, pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing and management and technical consulting services. There are currently more than 700 biotech companies totaling 25,000 employees in the San Gabriel Valley.

The success of Bioscience and medical industry is supported by leading the cancer research university City of Hope and premiere bio-medical colleges and universities, including Cal Tech, Keck Graduate University, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles. Additionally, San Gabriel Valley is home to many support networks such as the Pasadena Bio-Science Collaborative, Innovate Pasadena, Innovation Village Pomona, and Innovate Claremont.
