KEY PRINCIPLES: LONG TERM VISION

A FLEXIBLE PLAN. A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY.

Easton is based on these key principles:

Build on Existing Assets. The beneficial reuse of approximately 6,000 acres involves building upon and enhancing the area’s infrastructure, including existing water, sewer, utility and transportation systems. Easton’s planners have a leading role in the Highway 50 Mobility Coalition, [embedded link] a public-private partnership for fostering transportation solutions that will enhance overall mobility throughout the Highway 50 corridor.

Protect and Enhance Natural Resources. The community will create a network of parkways, open space areas, bicycle paths, greenbelts and walking trails, linked throughout Easton, ultimately connecting to the American River Parkway.

Encourage Mixed-Use. All of the boroughs in Easton provide for a mix of uses, including neighborhood commercial centers, recreational amenities, and employment and shopping venues, all located near to a range of housing choices and options.

Create Housing Diversity. A wide variety of housing types—both for sale and for rent—is planned for all income levels and all stages of life. Types are categorized as high-density (such as apartments, live/work units, housing over retail); medium-density (townhomes, small lot single family homes); low density (larger lot single family and executive homes).

Provide Transportation Choices. Easton will be served by an existing Light Rail station located at Hazel Avenue, and another at Iron Point Road, as well as major bus lines and new arterial roadways. In addition, a potential third Light Rail station is planned adjacent to Westborough. These transit systems integrate with a robust network of pedestrian and bicycle trails, minimizing dependency on motor vehicles and reducing congestion.
