Microneedling is a collagen-stimulating procedure for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars, and large pores, and for the improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. The instrument used creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin to produce collagen and elastin. Although the treatment has been practiced for over 20 years, SkinPen by Bellus Medical was the first micro-needling device in the world to be cleared by the FDA. SkinPen uses adjustable-length, disposable straight needles to penetrate at a 90-degree angle. This adjustability allows for differences in skin thickness and skin types.
