Prep Cook

Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking individual to join our team as a Prep Cook. This role is crucial to maintaining the smooth operation of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for preparing ingredients for our menu items, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and ensuring all dishes and utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.

Responsibilities:

Food Preparation:

  • Wash, peel, chop, slice, and dice fruits and vegetables.
  • Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
  • Prepare sauces, dressings, and other condiments.
  • Portion and wrap food items for storage or service.
  • Ensure all food preparation is done in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Follow recipes and instructions from the chef or operations manager.

Dishwashing:

  • Operate and maintain the dishwashing machine.
  • Wash dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, and pans thoroughly and efficiently.
  • Ensure all items are properly sanitized.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area.
  • Empty and clean trash receptacles.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen floors.

Kitchen Maintenance:

  • Clean and sanitize work surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
  • Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and report shortages to the kitchen manager.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist other restaurant staff as needed.

Teamwork:

  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Communicate clearly with kitchen staff and management.
  • Be willing to assist in other areas of the kitchen as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.  
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and recipes accurately.  
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy objects.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a hot and humid environment.
  • Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely.
